Kofi Annan, Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States for Syria gives a press conference in Geneva to announce his resignation, on August 2. Annan resigned after his peace plan failed to prevent further fighting between rebels and forces loyal to President Bashar Al-Assad.
