Israeli soldier killed in West Bank after knife attack (1-2)

An Israeli soldier, named as Sergeant Major Ihab Khatib, has been stabbed twice in the chest by a Palestinian man. After trying to escape, Sergeant Khatib lost control of his jeep and died from his chest wound. The attacker is reported to have served as a Palestinian Authority officer, was apprehended after an onlooker ran him over in a car. Samaria, Israel. 10/02/2010.

The victim has been identified as Sergeant Major Ihab Khatib, a non-commissioned officer in the Kfir Brigade.

Judea and Samaria District Police officers apprehended the terrorist and the knife used in the attack was found at the scene. Israeli security officials said the terrorist acted alone.

The attacker, Mohammad Khatib from the village of Yabed, reportedly served as a senior officer in the Palestinian security forces. He was transferred to the security forces for investigation.
