I was working on a report for the newspaper on Tuesday 4th of January after the church bombing in Alexandria Trying to see if it has affected Tourism in Alexandria by any means so I met a couple of Canadians, Daniel and Terrena in the “ Bibliotheca Alexandrina “ plaza .They were wondering around and asking the security man from where they can buy water to drink.
I introduced myself as a journalist and was just getting into my first question when he suddenly snapped : let me ask you something!!!
“ What was the church bombing all about ?
“ Oh , so you heard about it ?
“ yes , but we were in Cairo, so, who did it ?
So I figured I should tell the most conclusive scenario ,which made me say : Al Qaida!!!
“ But we heard it’s the Muslim Egyptians who hate Christians”
“ No, of course not, I am a Muslim and we don’t hate any one and Al Qaida are not Muslims .”
“ They are always talking about Islam and saying Islam say this, Islam say that , this is our Quran and so on “
“They are not Muslims and they are just saying all the wrong things about Islam ,they have nothing to do with Islam”
“So they are what Christians???”
“No, They are terrorists and terrorism has no religion and we are all affected by such a terrible act .
At this point Terrena started to agree with me and started nodding her head and repeating the word terrorists .
Daniel seemed not so much convinced by the explanation so he asked the brilliant question that got me into several stages of shock and unbelieving he asked “ Was the bombing at a Christian Church???”
OH MY GOD….Oh my God, Is there a Church that is not Christian???
Or Is there a Muslim Church for example or a Hindu Church???
I tried to make a sarcastic question asking : Is there a church that is not Christian? But he made no reaction which meant he doesn’t really know the answer.
Oh my God , he doesn’t know anything about Islam or about any other religion ,he must think that all the other religions are the same and have the same rituals in the same church but the type of the church just vary in the” name”.
Really , he doesn’t know anything about anything, the typical western guy whose not educated enough and trying to judge the same old stereotype “Muslims“.
It is exactly the same reason why Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar walked off the set of ” The View” after a fiery debate with guest Bill O'Reilly over the mosque near Ground Zero.
O'Reilly, set the two off when he declared Muslims "killed us on 9/11”

So I figured I will ask my typical questions like trying to make this charade to an end :
Did you enjoy your stay?
What was the most exciting place ?
Have you visit Aswan and Luxor yet ?
May I take a photo of you two?
They posed hugging and close to each other ,then it seemed like he refused to go without wrapping up the whole interview with such a silly pointless note that : we are cousins !!!
Ahhh , He is considering our Muslim culture , as if we don’t know about their culture from the movies.
Come on now , I didn’t ask him anything nor I did any reaction about their pose , so , I just smiled and shacked hands with both of them.
