Al-Masry Al-Youm hosted "Egypt Tomorrow: Democratic Transformation, Challenges and Opportunities" conference. According to General Abdel Moneim Katto, an Armed Forces Supreme Council representative, fallen regime had weakened Egypt's institutions - all being unable to run country's affairs - leaving armed forces as Egypt's only institution capabale of sound, interim governanace. That is why, continued Katto, Egypt armed forces have no option but to bear such a responsibility.
Katto emphasized that, once discussions of constitutional amendments are completed, power transtion will be scheduled in order for elected civilians to take over. Extending transition period would leave an impression armed forces want to stay in power, according to Katto.
