Editor:

Clashes broke out on Thursday night between the armed forces and protesters participating in a sit-in outside the cabinet building in central Cairo, after a protester was beaten up inside the parliament building. The violence escalated to include the burning of protestors’ tents, after which the two sides pelted each other with rocks. The armed forces then threw chairs and furniture, including a filing cabinet, at the protesters, while Molotov cocktails and rocks were thrown by both sides. The clashes are continuing for a third day, and have resulted in the death of ten protesters and the injury of hundreds, according to the Health Ministry. The General Authority for Roads and Bridges building was set on fire, as well as the Egyptian Scientific Institute.
