Nubian associations call for vigil in front of Cabinet to meet with Mehleb

Nubian associations called for a vigil in front of the Cabinet building on Saturday because the Council of Ministers refused to set a date for them to meet with Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb despite several requests.

They demand a draft law establishing the High Commission for the Resettlement of Nubians and the Reconstruction and Development of Nubia, arguing that the proposed law, which the Nubians approve, was prepared and handed over by the Transitional Justice Ministry of last February, but the officials have not yet responded to it.

They also demand the amendment of Presidential Decree No. 444 for the year 2014 on the identification of the areas adjacent to the southern borders of Egypt, which prevents indigenous Nubians from settling on their original land on the banks of the Nasser Lake in front of the High Dam.

They appealed in a statement to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to quickly issue the new law.
