Official: Egypt has 4,000 illegally-made level crossings

Ahmed Hamed, head of National Railways Authority, said “We have 6,000 kilometers of railways and more than 4,000 illegally-made level crossings.”
 
In a phone call with a talk show aired on privately-owned CBC TV channel on Saturday, Hamed said: “We do not have the culture of respecting laws. There’s negligence with regard to bloodshed. We have filed complains about all the illegal level crossings and reports will be prepared.”
 
On Friday, a collision between a train and a school bus, in Gharbiya governorate north of Cairo left at least seven victims, among them four children and the driver of the bus.
 
A recent government report said that 100,000 car accidents took place in Egypt from 2008 to 2012, with 33,000 killed and another 150,000 injured, according to Aswat Masriya.
 
Egypt's President ordered the formation of special a court circuit for traffic law violations in November, 2014. Last year, Egypt's traffic laws were amended twice in less than six months.
