A Cairo court sentenced on Wednesday political activist Sanaa Seif for six months for "insulting the judiciary" while the prominent young activist says "she has no more energy."
Neither Seif nor her lawyer attended today's session, an eyewitness told Aswat Masriya.
Last week, prosecution referred Seif to urgent trial over accusations of insulting a member of the public prosecution while she was being investigated in another case related to calling for protests against the recently signed border demarcation agreement between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. She was released on bail last week pending the court's ruling, which was issued today.
In response to the sentence, Seif said in a Facebook post that she is on her way to the police to turn herself in.
Seif recounted previous incidents in which she was arrested in the past five years in different cases related to protests.
She said that in the previous times when she was arrested, she took "the justice system" seriously but now she "has no more energy to deal with their procedures."
Last September, Seif was released among 100 other prisoners after a presidential decree pardoned them.
Seif is the sister of prominent political activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, and was part of a group arrested on June 21, 2014 while taking part in a march calling for the repeal of the protest law and the release of all those arrested for violating it.
The protest law, which was issued in 2013, imposes a practical ban on street demonstrations by requiring organisers of protests to obtain prior permission from the interior ministry.
