Qatar to provide Egypt with five shipments of natural gas

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said on Monday that Qatar will help Egypt overcome its fuel shortage by providing five shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the end of July to mid-September.

“The shipments are a gift,” explained Qatar's Energy and Industry Minister Mohamed Bin Saleh Al Sada in a statement to the press, without specifying the quantity to be given.

Egypt, which lacks the financial resources to import energy, desperately needs natural gas and other sources of fuel to address the frequent power blackouts occurring across the country.

Egypt has found it difficult to buy fuel since the outbreak of the revolution that toppled President Hosni Mubarak in 2011 and the hit the tourism industry and the Egyptian currency experienced as a result.
