Railways authority losses LE260 million in January

Losses of the Egyptian National Railways reached LE260 million (US$33 million) in January, according to Ahmed Hamed, chief of the authority, who stressed the importance of evaluating the losses in foreign currency as the requirements are bought in either US dollars or euros.

The number of rail cars that were burnt as result of the terrorist operations reached 10, he told Al-Masry Al-Youm. Costs to fix them reached LE6 million for each car, making the total for maintenance of the 10 cars reach LE60 million.

Intensifying control, in collaboration with police, as well as new measures imposed and fixing of cameras and bomb-detecting devices contributed to reduction of operations targeting trains, he added.
