Security forces thwart smuggling of 18 million Tramadol tablets in Suez

The Ain Sokhna Port police force in Suez, in cooperation with the Customs Department, successfully thwarted the attempted smuggling of 18 million tablets of the drug Tramadol into the country from India. Tramadol is a pain reliever with narcotic-like effects.

The drugs were hidden inside two 40 foot long containers. Two suspects accused of importing the containers were arrested.

The Suez Port criminal investigations director had received a tip about the import of a shipment of detergent which actually held millions of Tramadol tablets in the containers. On inspecting the two containers, over 18 million tablets of the drug were found hidden inside the detergent boxes.
