Sisi honors medalists from Olympics, Paralympics

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has honored Egypt's medalists at the Olympics, Paralympics, and the Russian military games.

At a ceremony on Wednesday at the Ettihadeya Presidential Palace in Heliopolis, Sisi honored their sporting achievements and thanked them for representing their country.

Sisi also listened to their suggestions regarding the development of the sports sector in Egypt, including for athletes with disabilities.

Egyptian athletes won medals in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer, as well as the International Military Games organized by the Russian Defense Ministry in Moscow.

Egypt gained three bronze medals in the Olympics, and 12 medals in the Paralympics.

The government announced the disbursement LE18 million in rewards for medalists in both games.

In January, Sisi announced that 2016 would be the year of Egyptian Youth, with the government launching various sports-related programs to help enrich young people's lives and provide opportunities for competitive training.
