Sixth victim of Israeli border assault dies at hospital

The sixth Egyptian border guard shot by Israeli forces on 18 August died in a military hospital in Cairo on Saturday morning.

Medical sources said the sixth victim, conscript Emad Abdel Malak, died after several surgical operations failed to save his life.

Israeli forces killed an Egyptian officer and four soldiers, and injured others, on the Egypt-Israel border while pursuing suspected militants who carried out an attack earlier that day in Eilat.

Abdel Malak's father told Al-Masry Al-Youm that his son received three bullets to the stomach, and that one exploded inside his body, causing an internal hemorrhage. He said that for four days his son was continually transferred between Taba hospital and Arish hospital in Sinai, before being transferred to the military hospital in the Cairo district of Qobba, where he underwent further surgery.

Last night protesters stormed the Israeli Embassy in Giza, and in the ensuing violence three people died and 1049 were injured, according to the Ministry of Health. This morning Al Jazeera news channel reported that clashes between security forces and protesters have broken out again outside the embassy.
