Sources: Shafiq coordinates for parliamentary elections from UAE

Sources have told Al-Masry Al-Youm that former presidential hopeful and former Mubarak-era minister Ahmed Shafiq, who currently chairs the National Movement Party, has been preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections from Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The National Movement Party is part of the Egyptian Front coalition which plans to run in the House of Representatives elections with four lists.

Shafiq stressed he was exerting the utmost effort while in the UAE to prepare the four lists, the sources stated.

Upon anonymity, the sources added that Shafiq met a number of party leaders in Abu Dhabi, including Yehia Qadry, deputy chairman of the National Movement Party, and discussed finalizing the lists as soon as possible to start campaigning.

The Egyptian Front Coalition will hold a meeting once Qadry is back from the UAE to determine the names of the candidates on the four lists, as well as candidates who will compete for individual seats.

The front has also prepared spare lists as a backup in case of splits, Qadry has said.

The coalition apparently aims to bring back candidates who had left the Front and joined other associations.
