Swiss Embassy, Cairo Runners to organize Geneva running event

The Embassy of Switzerland announced Thursday that it would organize the “Geneva Run in Cairo" on December 4, in coordination with Cairo Runners.

The embassy said that 2,000 runners were expected to participate.

The event mimics the Course De L’Escalade race, also known as L’Escalade, which is Geneva’s most popular sporting event, held each year during the first week of December, said a statement by the embassy.

"L’Escalade commemorates an event that took place in December 1602 when Geneva was attacked by Savoyard soldiers," the statement read.

The event will start at 7 a.m. in front of the Swiss Embassy’s Office for International Cooperation in Garden City.

The first route is 8 km long and will run through Kasr El Nil Bridge then Zamalek and back to Garden city. The second route is 1 km long and will be take place inside Garden City.
