Tamarod calls on people to besiege Morsy

Mahmoud Badr, a member of the Executive Office of the Tamarod campaign, called on the Egyptian people to take to the streets and besiege the Republican Guards House, where President Mohamed Morsy is staying.

In a press conference held on Wednesday, Badr said that the people’s protests are a form of “order” to the Egyptian army to go out in the streets and protect them.

Badr called on the Republican Guard forces to arrest Morsy. “What is happening right now is a popular coup against the legitimacy of Morsy. It is not a military coup.”

Tamarod launched the campaign two months ago and collected over 22 million signatures from Egyptians to withdraw confidence in Islamist President Mohamed Morsy and hold early presidential elections. On 30 June, mass protests filled Egyptian streets calling Morsy to step down.
