Teacher forces male students to wear headscarves for losing quiz

Parents of students at Abdullah al-Nadeem Elementary School in Nasr City filed a complaint against a teacher who forced her male students to put on headscarves as a punishment for losing a quiz to their female classmates.

Ahmed Ismail, one of the parents, told Al-Masry Al-Youm his son came back from school crying hysterically and refusing to return. He said the boy told him he was scared photos of him wearing the headscarf might circulate.

The child told his father the teacher had threatened him and his classmates with “wearing headscarves just like girls” if they lost the quiz. She told them she would also post their photos on Facebook after capturing some shots with her cell phone.

Ismail told Al-Masry Al-Youm he had learned that the teacher addressed the boys with female names, adding that his son was deeply demoralized.

Ismail revealed that the teacher offered an apology after he filed a complaint with the educational department. The father rejected her sentiments, claiming that the incident was not the teacher’s first violation against the students.
