Temporary workers join Egypt Gas company strike

Workers from the Egypt Gas company have continued their strike for a third week after negotiations with the Petroleum Ministry reached a deadlock.

The management has ignored the workers’ April 5 protest and insisted on dealing with the Petroleum Labor Union and not the true representatives of the workers. The protestors are rejecting the union, saying it never stood with them before.

The Manpower Ministry has yet to attempt to solve the problem.

Two thousand temporary workers, who were transferred to a subsidiary a year ago, but had their contracts suspended and were forced to return to Egypt Gas as temps, joined the strike in solidarity, forcing the management to fire them.
