Ten Egyptian inventors win 11 medals at Geneva inventions exhibition

The Swiss Embassy in Cairo congratulated on Wednesday Egyptian inventors who won 11 medals at the 44th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva last week.
 
Egypt won 7 gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze.
 
The embassy wrote on its official Facebook page: "Well done to the Egyptian inventors who took part in the 44th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva last week. They returned home with 10 medals — seven gold, two silver and two bronze, in appreciation of their important inventions!"
 
The Egyptian inventions included a system for generating electricity from trains, a natural soap made from 95 percent rice straw and a solar electric generator that is up to 90 percent more efficient than solar panels, according to the embassy's message.
 
The message wished Egyptian inventors great success in marketing all their inventions.
 
Youm7 reported on Wednesday that the Egyptian inventors have now returned to Cairo.
 
According to Youm7, Mohamed Mohamed Abdel Fattah won a gold medal for inventing a new method for the maintenance of heat exchangers, Mohamed Alam Eddin Abdel Hafez also won a gold medal for the invention of a device to install man-made knee joints into the human leg, and Tarek Salah Eddin won a golden medal for the invention of brick ceiling tiles for residential buildings.
 
Amina Mohamed Ahmed won a gold medal for the invention of a soap made of rice straw and a bronze medal for a spray shampoo. Mostafa Agha won first place in his class for a solar electricity device, while Ahmed Abbas won a gold medal for inventing an electricity generator from the movement of trains. Ahmed Abdel Tawab and Mohamed Gamal won a joint silver medal for the invention of anti-shock rubber car bodies, while Karm Salah Abdo and Mohamed Essam Eddin won a silver medal for their invention of a solar-powered electric generator. Ahmed Abdallah won a bronze medal for the invention of "smart genes for unlimited silk".
 

The participants applied to enter the exhibition through the website of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. Mahmoud Saqr, the president of the academy, explained that applicants were then selected and sent to the exhibition. The expenses for entry into the exhibition, travel and accomodation were covered by the Egyptian government.

According to Saqr, the number of registered patents in Egypt has recently risen by 30 percent.
 
The International Exhibition of Inventions, according to the exhibition's website, is the world’s largest annual event of its type dedicated to innovation and to new products. This year's event took place from April 13 to 17.
 
The exhibition is held under the supervision of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Swiss government and the State and City of Geneva.
 
The exhibition hosted 695 exhibitors from 40 countries including China, Thailand, Iran, Romania, Poland, Korea, Russia, France, Croatia, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Malaysia, Moldova, Spain, Bosnia, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and others.
