Trial of men in ‘gay-marriage’ video to start Tuesday

Qasr al-Nil prosecution referred eight defendants to trial who appeared in a video allegedly showing the country's first gay marriage ceremony.

The defendants will be tried before a misdemeanor court on Tuesday on charges of inciting debauchery.

The suspects were arrested earlier this month after appearing in a video that went viral, allegedly showing a gay wedding ceremony that took place in a Nile river boat.

Gay marriage is prohibited in the conservative Muslim society of Egypt according to the teachings of Islam, whose principles are the main source of legislation according to the constitution.
