The chairman of the Independent Union of Mataria Fishermen in the governorate of Daqahlia, Taha Sheraidy, said on Friday that the Sudanese authorities had stepped back from their earlier decision to release 101 Egyptian fishermen, detained since last April 7.
The Sudanese authorities have re-arrested the fishermen and sent them to Port Sudan, where they will be put on trial, he added.
After the fishermen reached their boats at the port and were ready to go back to Egypt, port officials refused to let them leave. In the morning, they were arrested, according to Sheraidy.
