16 drowning cases reported on Sham al-Nessim

Ambulance Authority Chief Ahmed al-Ansary said several reports were received over drowning of 16 persons at several governorates including Aswan, Gharbiya, Sohag and Menoufia.

Ansary said in a phone call with a talk show aired on the privately-owned Al-Hayah TV channel on Monday that “all victims drowned during the high turnout among citizens at the Nile river coasts. Seven victims drowned at the beginning of the day, while reports on the rest of the cases came throughout the day.”

Egyptians flocked to parks, coastal cities and entertainment destinations on the ancient day of Sham al-Nessim, which always comes the day after Coptic Christian Easter.
