3 injured in Upper Egypt shootout

Three people were injured during a shootout between two families in a village in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Sohag on Sunday.

Witnesses said fire engines and security forces were slow to respond, and did not appear until the fight was over.

Initial investigations revealed that a dispute over six karats (a quarter of a feddan) of state land in the village of Beni Wassel led to a machine gun battle between the Mohamed and Allam families. Two women were injured, one of whom was pregnant.

The fighting left nine homes burnt and their contents completely damaged.
