Giza explosive experts say they defused a bomb on Monday that was planted near a police checkpoint on the 26 July corridor.
After Giza security services were notified of the presence of a suspicious object on the corridor, authorities examined the object and determined it to be an IED.
A security source earlier denied presence of a bomb on the corridor. Major General Magdy al-Shalaqany, head of Giza Civil Protection Department, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the object was merely a canister, not a bomb.
Explosive experts said while defusing the bomb, authorities combed the area in search of other suspicious objects, which temporarily backed up traffic.
A police report was filed and prosecution was notified to conduct investigations.
