Authorities arrest 10 Palestinians in Arish police station attack

Security forces arrested 15 suspects, including 10 Palestinians, on Saturday in connection with the Arish police station clashes, said security sources.

On Friday, a large group of armed men drove through the town of Arish on motorcycles and in cars, waving flags with Islamic slogans and firing in the air, the sources said.

They attacked a police station and exchanged heavy fire with police and army forces. Violence continued into the night and ended when the assailants fled. The incident left five dead, including a police officer.

Security forces arrested four people on Friday, but witnesses confirmed they were only passersby.

Investigative authorities found a number of hand grenades, 15 rocket-propelled grenades, and other weapons at the site of the attack. An armored vehicle was reportedly damaged and many surrounding houses were badly damaged.

Residents and tourists left the area, fearing that another incident might occur.
