The Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency called on citizens on its official Facebook page to reduce consumption Saturday to avoid power outages.
It urged citizens to rationalize the consumption of electricity by reducing the number of lit bulbs, air-conditionings, to stop washing machine, vacuum cleaners, and electric water heaters in the coming few hours.
The agency announced it would start easing electricity loads because of increased consumption.
The main driver of power comsumption in the summer is the use of air conditioning units, which consumes large amounts of electricity. Citizens are urged to use them in moderation, and turn them off when leaving the room. Older and clogged AC units may need to be repaired or replaced to increase their efficiency.
