Iraq has reportedly agreed to release US$60 million in unpaid dues to Egyptian workers, Iraqi Planning Minister Ali Youssef Shokry said at a press conference on Monday.
Shokry said that he agreed with his Egyptian counterpart Ashraf al-Araby to pay Egyptian workers who left Iraq after 1990. The Iraqi and Egyptian central banks would coordinate to facilitate the transfer of those dues, according to a database of workers' records.
Iraq would commit to turning the money over after the necessary legal procedures and agreements are finalized, Shokry said.
The joint Egypt-Iraq commission will hold its first meeting in April in Egypt.
