The Egyptian Finance Ministry on Tuesday gave in to the demands of truck drivers–on strike since Friday–by reversing an earlier decision to increase taxes on truck freight.
Land transport associations, however, have decided to maintain the nationwide strike–except for the transport of "strategic" commodities–until the rest of their demands are met.
In the interim, the government has employed public-sector means of transporting wheat with the use of trailers and railroads–even river barges–in order to make up for the transport shortfall caused by the strike.
