Natural gas exports to resume on trial basis

The Egyptian Natural Gas Company Gasco (GASCO) on Wednesday resumed operation of the Arish gas pipeline, which is to transmit natural gas to Jordan and Israel on a trial basis. The pipeline also supplies a power station and a cement factory in Arish.

A source from the East Mediterranean Gas Company (EMG), which supplies Israel with Egyptian natural gas, said that GASCO opened the gas valves that supply the pipeline on Monday to begin a trial pump.

The source went on to say that larger quantities of natural gas are now being pumped to test the compressors and indicate potential leaks. He added that the natural gas had reached Arish City and Sheikh Zuwaid and that it would reach Israel and Jordan within hours.
