Independent MP resigns from restored Parliament

Independent MP Mostafa Bakry announced his resignation from the People's Assembly in a statement Tuesday, responding to President Mohamed Morsy's decision to recall parliament.

Bakry said the decision violates the Supreme Constitutional Court's decision that ruled Parliament unconstitutional.

In the statement, Bakry said the People's Assembly meeting on Tuesday is invalid, and added that public spending on the session is an illegal acquisition of public money.

Holding the session is a form of "political thuggery" and “a violation of the state of law,” he said.

Bakry said Morsy’s decision was intended to preempt any ruling by the Administrative Court that would invalidate the Constituent Assembly, and result in the military council forming the Constituent Assembly.

Bakry added that all the laws issued by the current parliament will be liable to invalidation and plunge the country into chaos.
