Presidency spokesperson: Negotiations for new govt in process

Discussions surrounding the formation of the new cabinet are still in process, presidential spokesperson Yasser Ali said Tuesday, noting that the new government might be named either before or after President Mohamed Morsy’s trip to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Ali made the statements during a press conference following Morsy’s meeting with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.

Morsy had vowed before his election to appoint a cabinet that would represent all political orientations. Press reports over the past period have mentioned various figures who may replace incumbent Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri.

Ganzouri submitted his resignation to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces following Morsy’s election, but the SCAF asked him to run the government temporarily until a replacement is named.

On Monday, Al-Masry Al-Youm quoted presidential sources as saying that former governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, Mahmoud Abul Oyoun, is the most likely nominee to head the new government.
