Pro-SCAF protests staged in Abbasseya

Hundreds of Egyptians arrived in Abbasseya Square Friday morning to hold a mass demonstration in support of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and refuse handing over power to a civilian-led presidential ruling council.

The Abbasseya protesters also called for holding the upcoming parliamentary elections on time.

Many demonstrators accused Tahrir Square protesters of destabilizing the country. They chanted, “The people and the army are one hand” and called on the SCAF not to leave power until a full civilian government is elected.

Other political forces called for a million-strong protest in Tahrir Square Friday, dubbed “Last Chance Friday,” to demand the formation of a national salvation government with full authority, handing over power to a civilian presidential council instead of the SCAF, and the formation of a neutral fact-finding committee to investigate the killings of protesters in and around Tahrir Square over the last week.
