Sisi, Erdoğan probe de-escalation efforts in Gaza over phone

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reviewed Monday efforts afoot to contain the ongoing escalation in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza, following a round of violence that began with a surprise attack in which Hamas militants raced into Israeli-occupied territories.

During a phone call initiated by Erdoğan, the two sides agreed on the need for concerted efforts to urge conflict parties to end violence and prevent more bloodshed among civilians, according to Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy

Sisi and Erdoğan have also emphasized the need to put an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by creating a political horizon and pursing a two-state solution that is based on relevant international resolutions, the spokesperson noted.
