Egyptian police arrested 65 suspects for protesting against parliament’s approval of the maritime border demarcation deal between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Police dispersed gatherings and arrested a number of protesters in Alexandria, Kafr al-Sheikh, Beheira, Minya, Beni Suef, Fayoum and Giza, sources said adding that many of the detainees are loyalists of former presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi.
In related news, the Qasr al-Nil and Azbakeya prosecutions started on Saturday the interrogation of 17 suspects arrested in Ramses and downtown. The suspects were accused of protesting without license and hindering public transportation.
Meanwhile, hundreds of journalists and members of the Press Syndicate board expressed refusal on the demarcation deal, describing it as null and unconstitutional.
In a statement on Saturday, the opposed journalists urged the government to form a national front to defend the two islands.
