Casualties after an attack on two buses carrying soldiers in Rafah on Tuesday has now risen to two deaths and five injured.
Military spokesperson Ahmed Mohamed Ali said on Tuesday that a group of terrorists targeted two buses that were carrying armed forces personnel in North Sinai. Three improvised explosive devices exploded as the buses drove by, while gunmen also fired heavily on the convoy as it passed down the Arish-Rafah road between the villages of Massoura and Abu Tawila.
Security forces exchanged fire with the assailants, forcing them to flee. The incident led to the deaths of one officer and a civilian driver. Another five were injured and taken to Arish military hospital.
Army forces are currently combing the area in an attempt to apprehend the armed men who carried out the attack.
Violence has continued to rock North Sinai following the ouster of President Mohamed Morsy in July this year.
