Russian plane disaster affects Russian tourism to Egypt: newspaper

A spokesperson for the Russian Federation for Tourism Industry said the Russian plane disaster in Egypt has resulted in a sharp drop in demand for tours to Egypt.

Many Russians who booked tickets to Egypt prior to the disaster have canceled their trips, preferring to spend their holiday in other tourist destinations, according to the Russian newspaper Pravda.

Customer confidence in the Russian airline Kogalymavia also fell and it might be facing financial problems soon, the newspaper added.

Summer 2015 saw a decline in Russian tourists to Egypt, especially after the increase of the euro against the Russian ruble, which contributed to
the decrease in Russian tourism to Europe by 60 percent.
