ANHRI slams Bahraini journalist’s arrest over Yemen strikes criticisms

The Arab Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) has slammed the arrest of a Bahraini journalist over a critical statement he made of the Arab air strikes in Yemen.

Fadel Abbas, secretary general of the Unitary National Democratic Assembly and a member of Bahrain’s press union, was arrested on 27 March over his party’s criticisms of the Saudi-led air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, according to ANHRI.

The organization pointed to an issue it has with Bahrain’s Interior Ministry in which the ministry bans any statements that are at odds with the official position on the situation in Yemen.

The ANHRI said that Abbas’s arrest because of the ministry's stance is a flagrant violation of the freedom of opinion and expression and demands that Bahraini authorities set him free.
