Ansar al-Jihad claims responsibility for pipeline explosions and Eilat attack

In a statement posted on the internet on Thursday, a group calling itself Ansar al-Jihad in Sinai claimed responsibility for recently bombing the gas pipeline to Israel, as well as the attack on a bus transporting Israeli soldiers in Eilat. The attack on the Israeli bus took place in August, while the most recent pipeline bombing took place on Sunday. The pipeline has been bombed ten times in the past year.

In the statement, which was posted on its website, the group pledged to wage war against what it called the corrupt regime and its cronies, the Jews and the Americans, and vowed to follow in the footsteps of their martyred imam, Osama bin Laden. The following are excerpts from the statement:

“The Islamic nation can clearly see how Muslims in Egypt, particularly in Sinai, suffered from the oppression of Hosni Mubarak and his criminal allies, the so-called Israel, occupier of Palestine, and the Americans.”

“Now, the wealth of Egypt’s land is cheaply donated to the bitterest enemies of religion, Israel, in order to please the biggest enemy of Islam, America. Mubarak, lover of crime and murder, suppressed protests against him, threw protesters in prisons that are like tombs and arbitrarily arrested our Sunni and Salafi brothers on the grounds that they threaten the security of the state.”

“And when the lions of Sinai exploded the gas pipeline in order to stop the regime from cooperating with Israel, the corrupt regime killed the masked martyr, Mohamed Gomaa, only to satisfy the Jews.”

“Gomaa was a hero who moved the laggards to terrify the Jews by the Om al-Rishrash operation and other operations that have created a new generation of Unitarians in the Sinai, after having proved that the regime worked for the enemies of Islam.”

“We strive to fulfill the oath of our martyr, Osama bin Laden, who said ‘I swear by Almighty God that America and whoever lives in America will not live in security — something we do not have in Palestine — before all the infidel armies leave Muslim lands.”
