850 Egyptian pilgrims stranded in Jordan

A government source has reported that over 850 Egyptian pilgrims are stranded on the border between Saudi Arabia and Jordan, as authorities try to transport them by ferry from Aqaba to Nuweiba.

Meanwhile, Saudi authorities have refused to transport another 320 Egyptian pilgrims from Yanbu to Daba, saying the Yanbu port is reserved for pilgrims, while the Daba port is for other passengers.

Clashes have erupted among 1180 pilgrims who were supposed to return to Egypt on the Riyadh ferry. The boat was stopped for technical reasons and then replaced by the Dahab ferry, which only holds 850 passengers.

The pilgrims blamed the Egyptian government for the chaos.
