Egypt issues urgent announcement on who will govern the Gaza administration for 6 months

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced on Tuesday that the administration of the Gaza Strip after the Israeli war ends will be undertaken by a Palestinian committee of 15 Palestinian technocrats under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority, RT reported.

In statements reported by Egyptian media, the Egyptian minister said that this Palestinian committee will administer Gaza Strip for a temporary period of six months, while emphasizing the organic unity between Gaza and the West Bank.

Abdelatty explained that existing understandings stipulate a temporary transitional formula within the Palestinian Authority’s framework.

Attempts to revive ceasefire underway

Cairo is working with Qatar and the US to revive the 60-day truce in Gaza as part of renewed efforts to end the war between Israel and Hamas, he noted.

He pointed out that Egypt is currently making a major effort, in full cooperation with Qatar and the US, to ensure the implementation of an agreement on this proposal.

Abdelatty emphasized that the main goal is to return to the original proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, with the release of some hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the unhindered and unconditional entry of humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized that creating a political horizon for the establishment of a Palestinian state is what guarantees the unity and exclusivity of arms control in the hands of the state, in response to demands that Hamas lay down its weapons.

Emergency Arab summit plan

Egypt previously presented its plan for the reconstruction of Gaza in March during an emergency Arab summit.

The plan includes the formation of a transitional committee of 15 independent Palestinian figures (technocrats) to govern the Strip for six months, with a focus on re-empowering the Palestinian Authority.

The plan emphasizes that Gaza is an integral part of the Palestinian territories, rejects any displacement of its population or attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause, and calls for the training of Palestinian security forces affiliated with the Authority to fill the security void in the Strip.

Abdelatty strongly criticized Israel’s attempts to displace Palestinians from their land, stressing that “there is no legal or moral justification for expelling Palestinians from their land” and that “if that happens, they will never return to their land again.”

He stressed that Israel only wants to give them “an exit ticket.”
