The French Élysée Palace announced that 10 countries, including France, will recognize the State of Palestine during the New York conference scheduled for Monday.
The Élysée warned in a statement on Friday evening that Israel’s annexation of the West Bank is a “clear red line,” according to Agence France-Presse.
French President Emmanuel Macron asserted that Israel is “completely destroying its image and credibility” in the eyes of the international public due to the civilian casualties in Gaza.
Macron told Channel 12 on Thursday: “Israel has achieved remarkable security results, but launching operations like this in Gaza is completely counterproductive and I must say that they are a failure.”
“Continuation of this approach weakens Israel’s position on the international stage and undermines global support for it.”
Macron defended his decision to recognize the State of Palestine later this month, considering the move “the best way to isolate Hamas.”
He noted that he wanted to visit Israel before the UN General Assembly meetings to explain his position, but the Israeli authorities refused his visit.
