Egypt responds to Sudanese militia leader remarks

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday reasserted his nation’s diplomatic approach and patience, following statements by the Rapid Support Forces militia leader’s against Egypt.

During an interview with the MBC Masr channel, Abdelatty said that “Egypt is a large and important country that respects itself and its commitments. It is a civilized nation with strategic patience and a forward-looking perspective.”

He assured that Egypt’s primary and ultimate interest is in the well-being of the Sudanese people, noting that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi clearly articulated this when he stated that Egypt’s hand is extended in friendship to all neighboring countries, including Sudan.

Egyptian foreign policy is being conducted with honor at a time when honor is scarce, he added.

“Egypt’s position and that of its political leadership are clear regarding the situation in Sudan. They are working and taking action to resolve the crisis politically, as the military elements have not ended the war over the past three years, but has instead led to the killing of civilians in Sudan,” he said.
