Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa expressed his gratitude to the Egyptian people for their warm welcome of Syrian refugees during the war.
Sharaa’s remarks came during a meeting with a delegation from the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce on Sunday in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on the sidelines of the Syrian-Egyptian Economic Forum.
He said, “I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Egyptian people for their generous welcome of the Syrian refugees who were present during the war.”
Sharaa added that this was not surprising given the well-known generosity of the Egyptian people, noting, “This is not unusual for our Egyptian brothers, as you are known for your generosity and brotherhood.”
“Perhaps one of the places where Syrians felt most at ease was Egypt; they were among their own people,” he added.
He clarified that there are opportunities to enhance cooperation with Egypt, directing that all necessary measures be taken to facilitate Egyptian investments in Syria.
Sharaa emphasized that economic stability in Egypt and Syria is vital for the entire region and will have repercussions on all other matters, whether security, political, or strategic.
