Egypt condemns recent annexation decisions in the West Bank

Egypt condemned recent annexation decisions in the West Bank and the expansion of settlement activities, which it says constitute a flagrant violation of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy – particularly UN Security Council Resolution #2334.

These actions undermine the prospects for a two-state solution and threaten stability within the occupied Palestinian territories.

During a phone call on Monday with Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdeatty stressed the importance of expediting the process of enabling the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to assume its responsibilities from within the Gaza Strip.

He indicated that this is a pivotal step in managing the transitional phase and consolidating the ceasefire, ultimately leading to the Palestinian National Authority assuming its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank after the end of the transitional period.

Abdeatty emphasized the importance of deploying an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire and support early recovery and reconstruction efforts, which will thereby contribute to improving the humanitarian situation and creating a conducive environment for resuming the political process.

The Palestinian Vice President commended Egypt’s ongoing efforts to support the Palestinian cause, stressing the commitment to continued coordination and consultation with Egypt in the coming period.
