Russia accuses Britain of direct involvement in the conflict with Iran

Russia has accused Britain of direct involvement in the ongoing conflict with Iran, rejecting London’s claim of neutrality after it allowed US forces to use its military bases to strike Iranian targets.

Russia’s Ambassador to Britain, Andrei Kelin, asserted that allowing the Americans to use British bases to bomb Iran is an act of “direct intervention, no matter how Prime Minister Keir Starmer tries to portray it otherwise,” adding that the Iranian leadership “has taken this into account.”

Killen said: “They like to claim here that Britain is on the sidelines, that it provides limited defense support to its allies, and that it is actually calling for a diplomatic solution. Who are they trying to fool? The naive British citizen, perhaps. But allowing the Americans to use bases to bomb Iran, and sending military aircraft into the region—that is direct intervention.”

The US and Israel began joint strikes on Iranian military sites on February 28.

Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and US bases in the region, in a continuing escalation that is raising international concerns about a widening conflict.
