Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said that the Palestinian issue is at the heart of the conflict in the region, and without a just settlement there will be no security or stability for Israel or any other nation, RT reported on Sunday.
In a speech during the Conference of Egyptians Abroad on Sunday, Abdelatty added that Egypt is currently focused on implementing the requirements of US President Donald Trump’s plan for the Gaza Strip, specifically in its second phase.
He expressed hope for a positive response from Israel, given the Palestinian agreement to the second phase of the plan.
The Egyptian minister explained that the second phase agreement stipulates the collection and inventory of weapons and a full Israeli withdrawal, along with the total, unconditional entry of humanitarian and medical aid and the commencement of early recovery and reconstruction projects.
Egypt condemns the occupation
He stressed Egypt’s position of complete rejection and full opposition to any plans related to the annexation of the West Bank or the displacement of Palestinians from their lands.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s condemnation of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, especially in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and its efforts to fragment the Palestinian territories and prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Cairo is scheduled to host a meeting soon of the mediators in Gaza negotiations—Egypt, the US, Qatar, and Turkey—following the announcement of an agreement on the second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza.
The meeting aims to reaffirm the commitment of all parties to implementing the terms of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement signed in Sharm el-Sheikh in October, according to a well-informed Egyptian source.
The meeting comes after Hamas and other Palestinian factions agreed to the roadmap for implementing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
