Security forces in Cairo are investigating the circumstances surrounding three bodies belonging to a family of three found inside a private car parked on the side of the Ring Road in Misr al-Qadima (Old Cairo) area.
Initial examinations and medical tests indicate that the deaths were caused by asphyxiation from gas leaking from the car’s air conditioning system.
Police emergency operations room received a report from passersby stating that a private car had been parked for an extended period on the side of the Ring Road towards Old Cairo, with occupants who were unresponsive.
Security forces and an ambulance immediately went to the scene, where they found the bodies of a man, his wife, and their daughter inside the locked car.
There were no visible signs of foul play or external violence on the bodies.
Preliminary Examination Results
The preliminary technical examination of the vehicle and the medical examination of the victims indicate that the deaths were likely caused by inhaling large amounts of Freon gas resulting from a leak in the vehicle’s air conditioning system while it was parked.
This led to the suffocation of the deceased inside the closed cabin.
The Public Prosecution ordered the transfer of the bodies to the Forensic Medicine Authority for autopsy to determine the cause of death and prepare a forensic report.
Technical experts were summoned to examine the vehicle and determine the nature of the technical malfunction and the leak.
The Public Prosecution also tasked the Criminal Investigation Department with investigating the circumstances of the incident, completing the investigations, and taking the necessary legal measures.
