Iranian news agency ISNA reported on Thursday that all flights by Iranian airlines heading to the United Arab Emirates have been canceled effective midnight last night.
This development follows a new package of strict US sanctions on the Iranian aviation sector coming into effect on Wednesday. The Trump administration has pledged to halt all operations of Iranian carriers and impose penalties on any entity engaging in business with them.
The newly enacted sanctions, announced by the Trump administration on Monday as part of a series of measures targeting Iran’s aviation industry, come amid US efforts to escalate economic pressure on Iran.
Concurrently, the Civil Aviation Organization of Islamic Republic of Iran informed local state media that airports in Baghdad and Muscat will also “no longer receive” Iranian flights starting from midnight.
