Muslims ready to sight moon’s crescent

Muslims around the world are gearing up for the holy month of Ramadan.

Saudi Arabia’s high court has ordered Muslims to make sure the moon's crescent is in the sky on Tuesday evening, marking the beginning of the lunar month.

Libya’s remote sensing and aerospace authority declared Wednesday as the beginning of the fasting month.

Saudi Arabia’s commander of civil defense services, Saad al-Twegry, announced that an additional task force of 4200 officers and 800 vehicles will be used to provide security for the huge number of Omrah pilgrims who are expected to flock to the kingdom during Ramadan. Al-Twegry referred to a detailed emergency plan in place for Mecca to handle more than 12 potential threats such as fire, heavy rains, floods, and outbreak of infection.

Meanwhile in the Gaza Strip, where people have become used to long hours of power cuts over the past three years, the only electricity generator is currently inoperative, waiting for fuel. The Gazan people are sorely prepared to lose further electricity, especially with the advent of Ramadan and the current high temperatures.
