Angry relatives of patient assaults workers at Egyptian hospital, causes pregnant nurse to miscarry

The General Nursing Syndicate in Egypt denounced an attack nursing staff at Quesna Central Hospital by a person claiming to be a pilot officer and his accomplice.

According to the union, in its statement, “The officer assaulted nurses in the hospital and caused the injury of five nurses and the miscarriage of another nurse, in addition to the injury of three female workers as a result of the incident.”

The union called on the concerned authorities to quickly investigate the incident, adding that the syndicate sent a telegram to the Defense Minister to take urgent legal measures against the person responsible for the incident.

Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, upon learning of the incident, began to communicate with the concerned authorities to take the necessary measures to restore nursing rights and protect them while performing their work, the statement added.

Th head of the union Kawthar Mahmoud said that she will not give up the rights of her nursing members, who perform their role to the fullest, stressing the need to address cases of assault on nursing staff in hospitals.

She added that scaring nursing staff will not be in the interest of developing the health system.

 

Hospital assault

The events of the incident began when a person claiming to be a pilot officer accompanied by his brother and some women arrived at the Quesna Central Hospital emergency room.

They were accompanying a woman suffering from minor bleeding. All the gynecologists were busy with other surgeries.

When the nurse informed the doctor of the details of the case, he asked her to perform an ultrasound and some tests until the completion of the surgeries.

The alleged pilot accompanying the woman refused and demanded urgent medical check for the case, and began to insult the hospital staff.

At the same time, the nursing staff he accompanied the case and placed her in an emergency bed to conduct the ultrasound and the required analyzes.

According to the testimonies of nurses at the hospital, the women began threatening the hospital’s nursing staff and vowing to beat them. After that, two men entered the women’s ward and beat all the nurses present in the ward.
